IPOH:
The food caterer at Sekolah Menengah Sains Tapah hostel, who allegedly caused massive food poisoning among students recently, may be barred from operating in school canteens nationwide.

Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan said the decision would depend on a report and laboratory tests received by the ministry on the case.

“The ministry terminated the service of the caterer at the hostel soon after the food poisoning incident,” he told reporters after attending the MIC President’s Programme with leaders of non-governmental organisations here last night.

On Saturday, 43 students and a teacher came down with food poisoning after eating food (roti jala and chicken curry) served at the hostel hall during supper.

To date, 25 students are still warded at the Tapah Hospital for further treatment.
