Disabled couple killed in accident on Penang Bridge

Deaf and mute pregnant woman dies on the way to hospital.

A disabled couple were killed when their motorcycle crashed into the rear of a car at Km 0.5 of the Penang Bridge at 6.20pm yesterday.

Mohamad Rizal Salim, 39, who was deaf, died at the scene while his wife, Noraini Ahmad, 36, who was also deaf and mute as well as pregnant with their second child, died on the way to hospital.

The couple who lived in Lebuh Sungai Pinang 7, here, have an eight-year-old son, and were on their way to Mohamad Rizal’s family house in Penanti.

Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatash Wahid said the couple was coming from the direction of Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway heading towards Perai and had just entered the bridge ramp.

“Mohamad Rizal was believed to have lost control of the motorcycle and skidded into the back of a Toyota Vios car driven by a 31-year-old man,” he said.
