Trader gets 6 months’ jail for punching Grab car driver

Driver had refused to allow the trader and his friends into his car as they were drunk and was afraid they would vomit in his car.

PETALING JAYA: A 21-year-old trader was sentenced to six months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today after he pleaded guilty to punching a Grab car driver.

Magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir handed down the sentence on Hong Wai Koong, after he pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to the 33-year-old victim in front of a hotel in Bandar Utama, Damansara, here at 3.55am on Oct 29.

Hong was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, Hong had punched the Grab car driver for refusing to allow Hong and his four friends into his car as they were drunk and he was afraid they would vomit in the car.
