Bursa Malaysia remains in negative territory mid-afternoon

At 3pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,676.5, down 13.54 points, from yesterday's close of 1,690.04, after opening 10.68 points weaker at 1,679.36.

Share prices continued its bearish sentiment, remaining in the negative territory at mid-afternoon, dragged by losses in selected heavyweights.

At 3pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,676.5, down 13.54 points, from yesterday’s close of 1,690.04, after opening 10.68 points weaker at 1,679.36.

Among heavyweights, Maybank lost two sen to RM9.36, Public Bank fell six sen to RM24.82, Petronas Chemicals declined eight sen to RM9.26 while Tenaga gained 10 sen to RM14.

For actives, Hibiscus Petroleum eased five sen to RM1.07, Inari fell 24 sen to RM1.81 and Frontkent was eight sen weaker at 80.5 sen.

Market breadth was extremely negative with losers outpacing gainers 845 to 104, while 230 counters were unchanged, 734 untraded and 31 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.44 billion shares worth RM1.35 billion.

The FBM Emas Index slipped 150.56 points to 11,530.2, the FBMT 100 Index fell 137.63 points to 11,387.56 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index declined 154.06 points to 11,461.11.

The FBM Ace Index erased 141.72 points to 4,782.86 and the FBM70 lost 331.9 points to 13,168.23.

Sector-wise, the Plantation Index was 58.02 points lower at 7,322.61, the Industrial Products and Services Index eased 2.41 points to 167.33 and the Financial Services Index lost 145.21 points to 17,071.22.
