BEIJING: World record holders South Korea were knocked out of the short track speed skating mixed team relay in the quarterfinals at the Beijing Olympics today.
The quartet, spearheaded by Choi Mon-jeong and Hwang Dae-heon, finished third in their race.
The two third-placed teams with the best times advanced into the semifinals, but Kazakhstan and the US posted quicker times.
South Korea are ranked sixth in the world in the discipline, for which they set the world record in Beijing last October at a World Cup event.
Favourites China, Holland and Hungary advanced smoothly.
The mixed team relay, which is making its Olympic debut, continues with the semifinals and final later today.
