FRANKFURT:
Mitsubishi Motors will bring its Colt small car back to the European market next year after a decade-long absence.

The five-door hatchback will roll out in the autumn of 2023, with the lineup to include a hybrid version. The all-new ASX compact sport utility vehicle will also be launched in Europe that fall.

The new Colt will be built in the northwestern Turkish city of Bursa at a plant jointly operated by local industrial group Oyak and French automaker Renault.

The model will make use of the CMF-B platform shared by the three-way alliance of Mitsubishi Motors, Renault and Nissan Motor.

Mitsubishi Motors had manufactured vehicles for the European market through a one-time Dutch subsidiary that is now VDL Nedcar. The Japanese automaker pulled out of Nedcar in 2012 after years of red ink.

The Colt once spurred a “compact boom” in Europe, where it remains popular. Half a million units have been sold in Germany since the model launched here in 1978.
