PETALING JAYA:
Weststar Group’s aviation arm Weststar Aviation Services Sdn Bhd has inked a RM2 billion financing deal with AMMB Holdings Bhd (AmBank Group) to accelerate its expansion.

Weststar Aviation Services executive director Syed Azni Syed Azman said this would support its fleet expansion, strengthen working capital, and facilitate the management of foreign exchange requirements.

He said the company would continue to expand its helicopter fleet, strengthen its operations and support industries critical to the country, Bernama reported.

“Our helicopters support the offshore oil and gas sector, defence needs and are used in emergency response.

“So this is not only about growing a business. It is about strengthening our ability to serve the country,” he said at the signing ceremony today.

Syed Azni said the company intends to expand its fleet from 32 to 64 aircraft within two years.

AmBank managing director (wholesale banking) Jamzidi Khalid said the RM2 billion financing deal marks the next chapter in Weststar’s journey, enabling it to accelerate fleet expansion, enhance operational capabilities, and scale its presence both regionally and globally.

“More importantly, this mandate opens the door for deeper collaboration in the future from potential super issuances and initial public offering opportunities as Weststar continues to expand its global partnerships,” he said.

Weststar Group managing director Syed Azman Syed Ibrahim said they are not affected by the West Asia crisis after having exited its offshore transportation operations in the region late last year.

He said the company had operated in Saudi Arabia for about three years but opted to withdraw after anticipating rising instability.

The group had previously operated in Al-Khafji, Saudi Arabia, deploying two helicopters for offshore crew changes, medical evacuation and search-and-rescue missions.

Syed Azman also said Weststar Group’s operating costs remain unaffected by current oil and gas prices as fuel expenses are treated as pass-through costs under its contracts.
