PETALING JAYA: National men’s doubles shuttlers Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani won their opening tie against their Singaporean counterparts at the Indonesia Open.
The world No 8 duo defeated 41st-ranked Wesley Koh-Junsuke Kubo 21-17, 21-16 in 31 minutes at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta.
This is their second win over the Singaporeans in as many encounters.
In the second round on Thursday, Sze Fei and Izzuddin will take on either Japan’s Takumi Nomura-Yuichi Shimogami, or English pair Ben Lane-Sean Vendy.
Sze Fei-Izzuddin are gunning for their second title after winning the Indonesia Masters in January.
They were runners-up at the Thailand Open and quarter-finalists at last week’s Malaysia Masters.
