GEORGE TOWN: They are yellow, wear silly goggles and speak gibberish that you don’t understand—it’s the ever loveable Minions and they are set to visit Butterworth for 10 weeks from tomorrow.

They will be on the grounds of Padang Dataran Pemuda Merdeka (former British Recreational Club) on Jalan Heng Choon Tian in conjunction with Hari Raya and Merdeka celebrations.

The place will be open from noon to 10pm on weekdays and from 10am to 10pm on weekends until Sept 3.

Besides that, patrons will also be able to play in a pop-up playground, which would feature a 32-feet giant Minion made from flowers and also a smaller 15-foot Minion character.

Later on, a 4,600-feet “Despicable Me3” dome will greet visitors for an unforgettable selfie and “wefie” chance with the Minion characters.

If you have not watched the first two Minion movies, don’t fret. An outdoor cinema will be set up to screen “Despicable Me” and “Despicable Me 2” from June 23 to 29.

The entire event is organised by JWL Resources Asia Sdn Bhd, the Penang government, Seberang Perai Municipal Council and Penang Global Tourism.

The event is funded by the state government at a cost of RM900,000.
