This particular bug causes Apple iOS devices to act strangely, crash and even bootloop. It was first discovered by MobileWorld and has since then made its way across the web, which is unfortunate for Apple, considering their week of negative feedback concerning their new smart speaker. The HomePod is leaving permanent white marks on furniture, however Apple can do little but suggest you move it to a different surface. Thankfully, with the new bug, there is a cure and Apple are working on it.
To avoid this latest issue, the ‘Telugu bug’, Apple users are being warned to not send or receive one particular Unicode character, which causes iOS devices, including tvOS, watchOS and macOS, to crash or misbehave. A big nuisance caused by a single symbol from the Indian language Telugu, spoken by over 75 million people worldwide.
This symbol, one of 60 used in the Telugu tongue, cannot be fully recognized by the Apple devices. If pasted into an app, such as Instagram or Twitter, or even received via message, users will experience a crash, freeze or bootloop. And according to The Verge, third party applications such as Gmail and Outlook for iOS, are also being affected. Demonstrations of the bug can be seen on a video released by the YouTuber, EverythingApplePro.
According to iMore and numerous other sites, Apple has confirmed that the Telugu bug is fixed in all the current iOS 11.3 betas and soon they will push a new update to further resolve the problem.
