BELFAST:
Irish rockstar Sinead O’ Connor has converted to Islam and changed her name to Shuhada Davitt.

In a Twitter post last week, she said she was proud to have renounced Christianity.

“I am proud to have become a Muslim. This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey.

“All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant,” she wrote.

The mother of four also posted a video of her singing the azan on YouTube.

She apologised for mispronouncing the Arabic phrases, saying it was her first attempt.

“I keep getting the Arabic words wrong!! I’m so sorry!! I’ll get them right eventually. Insha Allah,” she said.

O’ Connor’s 1990 hit song, “Nothing Compares 2 U”, a rearrangement of the original by Prince, was a worldwide success, and won the Billboard Music Awards for No. 1 World Single.

Her album “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got” was nominated for four Grammy Awards in 1991, including Record of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, and Best Music Video. However, O’Connor refused to accept the nominations and award.
