This Volvo S90 Recharge T8, which sits in the Hybrid/Plug-in Hybrid category for our Malaysia Car of The Year awards will be going against contenders such as the Honda City 1.5 RS and Mercedes-Benz S 560e.
Both T5 and T8 variants will also be in the Luxury Cars category, hitting against models such as the Land Rover Evoque and Lexus LS 500.
The launch of the updated Volvo S90 is part of Volvo Car Malaysia’s commitment to becoming a leader in the premium electric car market with plans to become a fully electric car company by 2030.
It intends to only sell electric cars and phase out any car in its global portfolio with an internal combustion engine, which includes hybrids.
This comes on the back of strong demand for the company’s electrified cars in recent years and a belief that the market for combustion engine cars is a shrinking one.
The company became the first and only automotive brand in Malaysia to offer a full range of completely knocked-down (CKD) plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) in February with the launch of the XC40 Recharge T5.
