From plates of tapas to the sparkling sea or towns steeped in history, what could be better to make work meetings more palatable? With all these benefits and more, it’s easy to see why Spain appeals to remote workers. Indeed, the country has now confirmed its status as the best destination for digital nomads.

This is the conclusion of VisaGuide‘s Digital Nomad Index for 2025. One crucial factor in determining whether a country is suitable for remote working is the speed of the internet connection: here, Spain ranks among the best, just behind the United Arab Emirates, which comes second overall.

The Iberian country stands out not only for its popularity as a tourist destination, but also for the high standard of its healthcare system. And in terms of taxation, digital nomads enjoy a particularly attractive situation with a flat rate of 24% on their income, bearing in mind that their digital-nomad visa is valid for three years, and renewable every two years.

In the UAE, there is no tax rate on the income of remote workers, but they must already have an employment contract before setting up their new life in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, not to mention a guaranteed salary of at least US$5,000 (approximately RM22,000) per month.

In Europe, the other top countries for digital nomads are Montenegro (3rd), Hungary (5th), Romania (7th) and Portugal (8th).

Further afield, the top 10 features destinations including the Bahamas, which offers an idyllic setting for combining meetings with relaxation; and Brazil, which may particularly appeal to remote workers with its six-month tax-free period.

More surprisingly, the Caribbean island of Curaçao closes the top 10. Although the island’s internet speed might not reassure the most assiduous teleworkers, they will nevertheless be able to avoid paying any tax during their stay.

Meanwhile, a recent study from Printful, reported by Globetrender magazine, revealed trending destinations for digital nomads. Focusing on internet searches for countries open to remote workers last year, this analysis points to the rise of Jamaica (+250%), Barbados (+200%) and the Philippines (+173%).

The rest of the list confirms the position of the Bahamas (+100%), which is as attractive as Kuwait, Morocco, Sri Lanka and Guatemala (+100% each). To a lesser extent, digital nomads are also interested in working in Greece (+84%) and Slovenia (+67%).
