While giant piloted mobile suits sadly remain the stuff of science fiction for now, local Gundam fans can still get a little closer to their childhood dreams with the recent opening of The Gundam Base Malaysia.
This snazzy spot in Fahrenheit88 Mall is the country’s first official retail store dedicated to Gundam and Gundam plastic model kits known as Gunpla.
Malaysia has now joined the growing global network of The Gundam Base stores, which can be found around the world including in Japan, China, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore and the US.

Featuring exclusive Gunpla models, limited edition collectibles, immersive exhibits and interactive model-building experiences, this store will delight mecha newbies and die-hard enthusiasts alike.
The Gundam Base arrives in Malaysia through Bandai Namco Asia and local distributor Litt Tak Sdn Bhd.
Its launch on April 14 was graced by Bandai Spirits director Takahiro Mizuno, Litt Tak Sdn Bhd executive director Tan Ee Chian and Fahrenheit88 Mall chief executive officer Joyce Yap.
“The Gundam Base Malaysia provides fans with a dedicated hub where they can access authentic products, discover exclusive releases and connect with fellow enthusiasts. Our workshop area is a community space designed to encourage creativity, learning and shared experiences among fans,” Tan said at the opening.

Malaysian Gundam fans will have no trouble spotting the new store from afar, with its neon blue accents and transparent walls designed to offer clear views into the space from outside.
Step inside, and you’re immediately greeted by a towering mecha sentinel: this is no Zaku, boy, but a 1.8-metre-tall RX-78-2 Gundam in exclusive The Gundam Base colours.
Take a selfie with it, or head to the store’s dedicated photo booth, where fans can pose against a model kit runner backdrop, turning you into a Gunpla!
The store offers a huge range of Gunplas across multiple grades, including Entry Grade (EG), High Grade (HG), Real Grade (RG), Master Grade (MG) and Perfect Grade (PG). From Barbatos to Unicorn, or even the elusive Sinanju, there’s something here for even the most hardcore mech enthusiast.
And if you’re fascinated by these sleek mecha suits, but have no idea how to build them, there’s no need for worry. Stop by the store’s daily interactive model building workshops, held between 12-3pm and 5-8pm from April 20. You’ll be proudly showing off your own Gundam in no time.

Of course, one question on many dedicated fans’ minds is: what limited-edition Gundam models are available here?
Four models are making their debut in Malaysia and will be available exclusively at The Gundam Base Malaysia.
These are the imposing MG 1/100 The Gundam Base Limited RX-78-2 Gundam Ver 3.0 (the Gundam Base Colour); the mighty MG 1/100 The Gundam Base Limited Gundam Barbatos (Clear Colour); the winged MG 1/100 The Gundam Base Limited Destiny Gundam (Heine Westenfluss Custom); and the sleek gold RG 1/144 The Gundam Base Limited Burning Gundam Hyper Mode.

Whether you’re an OG fan of 1979’s Mobile Suit Gundam, discovered the mecha anime genre through classics like “Gundam SEED” (2002), or came to the franchise through modern hits such as “Iron-Blooded Orphans” (2015) and “The Witch From Mercy” (2022), there’s bound to be something at The Gundam Base Malaysia just for you.
So grab a kit, pick up your nippers, and prepare to have a Gundam good time!
