“MCMC will ensure the smooth implementation of this scheme and at the same time place the interest of consumers as priority,” said MCMC Chairman, Halim Shafie in a statement today.
He said action would be taken against any telecommunication company who does not adhere to the ‘Guidelines on Registration of End-Users of Prepaid Public Cellular Services.
Halim said the registration process was important, so that MCMC could ensure accurate registration to differentiate between local and foreign prepaid mobile phone users.
In the same statement he said, MCMC had issued 50 compounds amounting to RM2.29 million this year to telecommunication companies for offences involving false registration of prepaid SIM cards.
Halim also said MCMC would ensure the rebate process given to mobile prepaid card users was credited immediately or within 24 hours.
