Speaking to reporters yesterday, State Executive Councillor in charge of Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation, Chow Kon Yeow, said three briefings will be held in January for various stakeholders.
“We are fully committed to informing the people on the plan,” said Chow, adding the briefings would be conducted by the state strategic communications committee.
Two briefings will be held on January 11 – one for state Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen and MPs, followed by a Mandarin session for the public.
The third briefing is scheduled for January 18 to hear grouses from the state’s fishing community in the South, who have raised fears over pollution, destruction of marine life, and their livelihood.
The PMTP includes a 5-in-1 transport solution encompassing an undersea tunnel; a cable car service across the channel; ferries and water-taxis; light rail transit and monorail; including buses, taxis, and highways.
The briefings are also seen as a way to increase public support for the controversial billion-dollar PTMP and the related Permatang Damar Laut (PDL) coastal reclamation project.
The state government has faced mounting criticisms over both projects.
