No place for rowdy behaviour during Thaipusam in Penang, warn cops

Some 1,500 policemen and CCTVs, will ensure things go smooth at the Waterfall Hill temple in George Town.

PETALING JAYA: Leave your alcohol and bad behaviour at home during the Thaipusam celebrations this weekend, or face the full brunt of the law.

This was the stern warning issued by Penang deputy police chief DCP A. Thaiveegan to devotees in the state.

The Balathandayuthapani temple, known by its Waterfall Hill moniker, will also be equipped with closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) installed by the police.

“Some 1,500 policemen will be mobilised to maintain law and order, and ensure smooth traffic during the celebrations in George Town this weekend.

“Do not misbehave, drink or carry dangerous weapons during the celebrations. We will take stern action against those who flout the law,” he said.

Several roads will be closed in stages during the silver chariot procession from Lebuh Penang to Waterfall Hill temple on Saturday.

Among the roads that will be affected are Lebuh Chulia, Lebuh Victoria, Jalan Prangin, Jalan C.Y Choy, Jalan Magazine, Jalan Datuk Keramat, Jalan Utama dan Jalan Air Terjun.
