Tabung Haji appeals to Muslims to end speculation on bonus

TH says it is normal practice to announce the depositors bonus between January to March after all audits were approved internally.

PETALING JAYA:
Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has urged Muslims in the country to stop speculating on the date the depositors bonus would be announced.

In a statement by TH’s Public Affairs and Corporate Communications Department, which was posted on Facebook, it explained that TH would do so during the first quarter of the year, which fell between January to March.

This, it said, was to ensure that all audits were approved internally.

“At TH, the savings concept is based on the Al-Wadiah Yad Dhamana concept, where the returns are in the form of Hibah (grants) which is subjected to the current year’s financial performance and the discretion of the management.

“This concept is no different from the Al-Wadiah concept used by other Islamic banking institutions. Previously, TH announced the depositors bonus between the end of February and early March.

“However last year we made the announcement earlier.”

According to TH, although 2015 was a challenging year, it believed that it managed to secure a return on investment from their Assets Allocation Strategy.

“Therefore, the depositors should not be listening to speculation which only sparks fear.”

Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa had earlier today raised concerns about the delay by TH in declaring its dividends to nine million depositors, which he said should have been announced on January 22.

Mujahid said, although TH has until March to do so, their silence over the matter had raised questions as to the capability of the financial institution to deliver on its promise.
