According to the report, the Ketereh MP has volunteered to talk to figures like Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and vice-president Shafie Apdal, in a bid to strengthen the party.
The duo have been critical of the current leadership under Prime Minister and party president Najib Razak.
According to Annuar, he has also been meeting wing members, including the duo, and talks have been positive.
“I do not intend to play a mediator’s role but I can be a tool to persuade those who feel marginalised and are disgruntled with the party.
“I am happy that Shafie is talking less now and it will help heal the party before the 14th General Election, which is less than three years away,” he was quoted as saying.
Annuar also said he could relate to the predicament faced by both Muhyiddin and Shafie, having himself been replaced as Kelantan deputy liaison chief with Zaid Ibrahim by former Umno president Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“Imagine how I felt at that time. But I am still with Umno. It is my opinion that Muhyiddin and Shafie are feeling the same.
“I feel that Muhyiddin and Shafie coming back to the mainstream in the party is just a matter of time.”
