Cop hurt in ‘footbrawl’ involving S’gor, Perak supporters

Police say brawl tonight occurred outside Perak Stadium in Ipoh due to provocation by Selangor supporters.

IPOH:
A policeman was injured during a brawl between supporters of the Perak and Selangor football teams following the Super League match between the two teams in the Perak Stadium here tonight.

The lance corporal from the Batu Gajah police headquarters sustained an ear injury when he was struck by a hard object.

He was treated by a team of hospital staff stationed at the stadium.

Ipoh police deputy chief Supt Mohd Nor Rasid said initial investigations revealed the brawl outside the stadium was due to provocation by Selangor supporters.

“The Selangor supporters were beating drums while insulting the Perak team which riled some Perak supporters,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.

The match saw Perak losing 0-1 to Selangor.

Mohd Nor said swift police action defused the situation, adding that no police report was lodged.
