PETALING JAYA:
Despite strong criticism against the move to bring in 1.5 million Bangladeshi workers into Malaysia, the government of both countries have gone ahead to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the deal.

In a report appearing in The Daily Star, Bangladesh’s leading English newspaper, the country has agreed to send their workers to Malaysia over a three-year span under the new government-to-government Plus system (G2G Plus).

The agreement was signed between Malaysia’s Human Resources Minister Richard Riot Anak Jaem and Bangladesh Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam at the Dhaka Expatriates’ Welfare office this morning.

“Under the deal, Bangladeshi workers will be recruited in every sector including construction, manufactur(ing) and services,” the article said, adding that Riot had ensured the recruitment would be conducted in a “fair and transparent” manner.

Also agreed to was the minimum wage of between RM800-900 for each worker.

The article also said the new deal between the two countries was signed following the failure of the earlier government-to-government (G2G) labour recruitment system, that saw 10,000 Bangladeshi workers sent to Malaysia after its launch in 2012.
