Cop assaulted by m-cyclist at Ipoh roadblock


IPOH: A police corporal was injured after being assaulted by a motorcyclist while manning a roadblock in Jalan Sultan Nazrin Shah here last night.

Ipoh police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong said the incident occurred about 9.30 pm when the man and his pillion rider, a 16-year-old girl, were on a Honda Wave motorcycle.

The motorcycle came from the direction of the Sultan Yusuf roundabout and allegedly tried to escape the roadblock.

“The suspect jumped from his motorcycle and hit the policeman with a helmet on the head while cursing him by uttering abusive words.

“The suspect, 27, repeatedly kicked the policeman several times before being arrested with the help of the victim’s colleagues and other motorists,” he told reporters after attending the monthly assembly at the Ipoh district police headquarters in Pasir Puteh police station here today.

Sum said the right side of the policeman’s face was swollen and he had slight injuries on the leg and hand.

He was treated as an outpatient at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here.

Police issued a summons to the rider involved as he had no driver’s licence and had entered the road from the wrong direction, he said.
