The former director of the Bukit Aman Special Criminal Investigations Department Zaman Khan Rahim Khan was clearly moved when he met Nur Hamidah Nadjib who is now 24.

Nur Hamidah, who was 18 months old at the time of the tragedy, was also in tears at the meeting held at a private television station here.

Zaman Khan was one of the first people to hold Nur Hamidah after she was rescued from the ruins of the collapsed luxury condominium block on Dec 11, 1993, which killed 48 people.

“I am grateful that I finally got to meet her again,” Zaman Khan told Bernama here today.

Zaman Khan said he had tried several times to find the ‘miracle baby’, including contacting the Indonesian Embassy, but failed.

The meeting was organised by the television station and telecast live on TV9 this morning.

Nur Hamidah arrived in Malaysia at 5.10am from Surabaya, Indonesia, accompanied by her mother, Umi Rasyidah, 43, sister Iftitahun Nabilah, 22, and husband Zahroni Ahda Ghoni Pratama, 26.

She now works as a nurse at the Indonesian National Nurses Association.

At the time of the tragedy, Nur Hamidah’s mother was working as a maid in the building that collapsed.
