Xavier: I didn’t misuse flood relief funds

Seri Andalas assemblyman also denies report that he had sent someone to torch a car of flood victim.

KLANG: Seri Andalas assemblyman Xavier Jayakumar today lodged a police report over allegations of him misappropriating flood relief funds.

Jayakumar lodged a police report at the Sentosa police station in Klang today, denying allegations made against him last week by PKR member and flood relief victim P Nyanauthayam.

In his report, Jayakumar stated that the two police reports lodged against him by Nyanauthayam were false and meant to slander him and tarnish his reputation as the Seri Andalas assemblyman.

“I strongly deny the charge of misappropriating flood relief funds as alleged.

“The allegations in the police reports lodged against me were used by a third party (Kelana Jaya PKR secretary S Murali) to discredit me,” Jayakumar told reporters after lodging the report.

Nyanauthayam had also claimed that Jayakumar had sent someone to intimidate him by torching his car.

“I view these false allegations seriously, as it a threat to me and my family,” Jayakumar said.

As one of PKR’s vice-presidents, Jayakumar said he would submit a motion to the party’s disciplinary board to act against both Nyanauthayam and Murali.

Last Friday, Nyanauthayam lodged his first report against Jayakumar, claiming the latter and his service centre had misappropriated funds meant for flood aid. Two days later, he lodged a second report claiming his car was torched by Jayakumar’s “henchmen”.
