KUALA LUMPUR:
Malaysian rocker Awie has failed in his bid for a review of a charge of harming his former wife.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Zikri Jaafar informed the Magistrate’s Court here today that the Attorney-General’s Chambers had rejected the accused’s letter of representation, dated March 18, sent through counsel Hazman Harun.

Magistrate Husna Dzulkifly, therefore, maintained May 10 and 11 as trial dates.

Awie, 48, whose real name is Ahmad Azhar Othman, a father of five, pleaded not guilty when charged on Feb 15 with voluntarily causing hurt to Rozana Misbun, 38, at the PNB counter in Jalan Tun Razak here.

He allegedly committed the offence at 3pm on June 2, 2014.

The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum imprisonment of two years or RM4,000 fine, or both, upon conviction.

On March 7, the Ampang Magistrate’s Court acquitted Awie of causing hurt to Rozana at a house in Taman Ukay Bistari, Ukay Perdana, Hulu Kelang, and both parties agreed to settle the case amicably.

Awie paid a RM10,000 compound and apologised publicly to his former spouse.
