
The appointment was made by the consent of Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar with the ceremony held at the Bukit Serene Palace today.
In a statement on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page, it was said that the Regent of Johor was entrusted by the Sultan of the state to “perform the duties and govern the state of Johor.”
The Regent also holds all the power of the Sultan that can be exercised at any time, the statement added.
Together with the announcement, several pictures were uploaded of the ceremony.
Sultan Ibrahim ascended the throne on January 23, 2010 following the demise of his father Sultan Iskandar.
Meanwhile, his son Tunku Ismail became the Crown Prince of Johor with the title of Tunku Mahkota Johor on January 28, 2010.
He is more popularly referred to as TMJ and is married to Che Puan Khaleeda Bustaman since 2014.
