He said talk that he had left the party was not true. “Who said that? That report is not true, slander. I am still an Umno member, I never said I was leaving the party,” he told FMT today.
Ahmad who is the assembly member for Kijal, has often figured in talk about a revolt in Terengganu Umno. Last month he attempted to table a confidence motion against the serving menteri besar, Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman.
The motion was rejected by the Speaker. Terengganu Umno forms the state government with only a precarious two-seat majority in the state assembly.
FMT asked Ahmad about a report that he and two other unnamed Terengganu assemblymen had left the party which, if true, would lead to the fall of the Umno-led government.
Ahmad said he was not aware if there was a crisis in Terengganu at the moment. “I don’t know,” he replied briefly.
In the past week, his successor as menteri besar, Ahmad Razif, was also the centre of talk that he had fallen out of favour with the Sultan of Terengganu and had been stripped of his royal honours.
