Car painter charged with handling terrorist property

Muhammad Aizam Mat Zin was charged with handling the property of an Abu Sayaf group member, by giving RM700 to the terror group.

KUALA LUMPUR: A car painter who had been charged with possession of materials related to the Abu Sayaf militant group two days ago was charged again today with handling terrorist property.

Muhammad Aizam Mat Zin, 39, was charged with handling the property of Muhammad Joraimee Awang Raimee, 41, who is a member of the Abu Sayaf group, by giving RM700 for use by the terror group.

The offence was allegedly committed at Restoran Ras Hartini Tom Yam, Jalan 4/27A, Section 2, Wangsa Maju here, at 11pm on Dec 26, 2015.

The charge, under Section 130Q (1) of the Penal Code, carries an imprisonment for up to 20 years, or fine, and forfeiture of the property concerned.

However, no plea was recorded.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Mohd Nordin Ismail, while Muhammad Aizam was unrepresented.

Last June 8, Muhammad Aizam was charged in the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court with possession of materials related to the Daesh militant group in his house.

The charge under Section 130JB (1)(a) of Penal Code provides for up to seven years’ jail sentence or a fine, and forfeiture of the materials upon conviction.
