A delegation from the Pakan branch handed 1,678 membership application forms to PBB Secretary-General Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, according to a report in the Borneo Post.
They were led by ex-Teras Youth leader Zubrisky Bansang.
Among those present were Chief Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Abdullah Saidol, PBB Executive Secretary Awang Bujang Awang Antek, Ambrose Blikau (Katibas assemblyman), Assistant Minister for Rural Economy Julaihi Narawi and Assistant Minister for Public Utilities (Water Supply) Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
Former Teras Pakan Deputy Branch Chairman Tuai Rumah Sedau Empali said more members would be applying to join PBB later.
Teras used to have five state assemblymen including Pakan assemblyman William Mawan Ikom. It had about 30,000 members and boasted 26 divisions.
After the May 7 state election, in which Mawan retained Pakan as a direct BN candidate, Teras’s leadership decided to dissolve the party.
This resulted in its Bumiputera members joining the PBB while non-Bumiputera members had a choice of joining other state BN component parties – SPDP, PRS and SUPP.
Mawan and eight other direct BN lawmakers had expressed their intentions last month to join PBB, but Chief Minister Adenan Satem had advised them to consult and get the blessings of their constituents first, according to the report.
