Earlier this year, Roslan Sardi and Maimunah Md Razalli’s daughter, Siti Nuraisyah Sahrin, had her legs amputated after it was run over by a lorry.
“We’ve bought a pair of clothes for her, and when it’s closer to Raya, we’ll get her another one,” said Roslan, 40, when contacted by FMT.
Although the family had to make some adjustments following the tragedy, Roslan said it would not affect their Raya celebration.
“Our preparations this year are just like the times before. Aisyah is also acting as usual, she asked for ‘baju raya’, she even wants to play with fireworks.
“Our house in the kampung (village) is finally ready, so we will celebrate there.”
Although Nuraisyah is only his stepdaughter, Roslan said he loved her just like his other kids.
He also said now that she is bound to a wheelchair, both he and his wife have to pay more attention to making their daughter’s daily routine much easier to complete.
“I took care of her since she was small. It’s like she’s my own daughter.
“But the effect of the accident, only she can feel.
Last year, she could walk on her own, but now she needs our help, our support.
“As parents, we are of course sad that she has to go through this, but we have accept what was already fated.”
Nuraisyah’s accident took place on Jan 18 this year.
It caught the attention of Prime Minister Najib Razak, who then personally went to meet the Form One student at her school in Bagan Terap.
“Although what happened to her was tragic, I am impressed with her strength in facing this difficult and challenging time,” said Najib.
