“We are shocked at the news of the attempted military coup against the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan government in Turkey,” the Pakatan Harapan presidential council said in a statement. “This military attempt to force regime change in Turkey is a blatant disregard for the democratic process and totally undermines the will of the Turkish people.
“Pakatan Harapan stands in solidarity with President Erdoğan and the Turkish people. We pray for the safety of the Turkish people who are now amassing on the streets as a show of support for democracy. We also call for a swift end to this attempted military coup, and a calm and restrained response by all sides,” said the statement, which was signed by parliamentary opposition leader and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, DAP leader Lim Kit Siang, and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.
They said changes to the government should be carried out through democratic means.
