He further claimed the game could threaten a person’s safety.
“This may lead to someone being too obsessive with the game.
“There are already a lot of issues in Malaysia that we brush aside, a lot of things that are weakening people’s way of thinking. So why should we entertain this silly game?”
He said this to reporters outside the Dang Wangi police headquarters, accompanied by other activists.
Penang Mufti Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor has called for Pokemon Go to be declared “haram” (forbidden) with immediate effect.
The mufti said a study by his department showed that the negative aspects of the game outweighed the positive aspects and, therefore, he hoped the National Fatwa Council would ban it.
Rani added that Pokemon Go could cause harm to people and the younger generation, especially children, and called on the police, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the relevant ministries to impose a ban on the game.
