Petronas confirms two fatalities in ammonia leak in Sabah

The company said it was extending all necessary assistance to three other affected personnel and all family members.

KOTA KINABALU: Petronas has expressed regrets in a statement that two fatalities have been reported following an ammonia leak on Tuesday 16 August 2016 at 9.30 am at its Petronas Chemicals Fertiliser Sabah Sdn Bhd (PCFSSB) plant in Sipitang, Sabah.

“Three other affected personnel have received appropriate medical treatment.”

The company said it was also extending all necessary assistance to the affected personnel and their family members.

“The incident posed no immediate threat to the surrounding communities or environment,” said the statement by PCFSSB. “Our Emergency Response Team was immediately mobilized and the situation has been contained.”
