ALOR SETAR:
The Kedah Royal Family Council today expressed its disappointment over Langkawi Member of Parliament Nawawi Ahmad’s remarks allegedly linking the Yang di-Pertuan Agong with Malaysian Official Number 1 (MO1).

Its president, Syed Idrus Syed Baharom, said the council was also disappointed with the politician for not making a formal apology to Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.

“The Yang di-Pertuan Agong is the ruler of the country and not the country’s administrator, so why should (he) drag His Majesty into these political issues?

“If (he) wants to do anything (he) should investigate first because it involves the dignity of the Agong, so now Nawawi needs to officially ask for His Majesty’s forgiveness and not through the media,” he told a press conference at his residence in Anak Bukit here.

Syed Idrus also gave a stern warning to all parties not to drag the Agong into any political issues that could degrade the royal institution.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar recently said Nawawi would be called in to have his statement recorded following his Facebook post linking the Agong with the United States’ Department of Justice’s (DoJ) lawsuit.

However, Nawawi lodged a police report on Friday, refuting the claim and saying instead that his statement had been misinterpreted.
