Gotho, who is 145 years old, may have earned the title of the oldest person ever with documentation that says he was born in 1870.
He has outlived all 10 of his siblings, his four wives and his children.
He has had to be bathed and spoon-fed for the past three months and has become increasingly frail.
According to foreign news portal Independent, Gotho said he began preparing for his death in 1992, and already had a gravestone made but is still alive.
Gotho says that he spends his time listening to the radio as he can no longer watch television due to his deteriorating eyesight.
Official documentation in his possession and the Indonesian records office have confirmed his birth date as December 31st, 1870.
If this can be independently verified, he will go down in the record books as the oldest person ever, a title which is currently held by French woman Jeanne Calment, who was 122 when she died.
When asked the secret to a long life, Gotho said “the recipe is patience”.
Last year, the Rakyat Post reported that Johorean Yati Musdi could have been the world’s oldest person with an Identity Card showing her date of birth as April 27th, 1899.
However, this would only put the Batu Pahat local as currently being 117 years old, still 28 years younger than Gotho and five years younger than Calment.
