KUALA LUMPUR:
The Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad today questioned the credibility and moral fibre of former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

He asked if Muhyiddin’s latest allegation against Prime Minister Najib Razak was an “attempt to distract from the Nika Gee statutory declaration”.

Businesswoman Gee Siew Yee is involved in divorce proceedings with her lawyer husband Stanley Augustin.

The divorce went public when a purported statutory declaration by Augustin accused his wife of having an affair with a senior politician.

Blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin later named Muhyiddin as the politician – an allegation Muhyiddin has vehemently denied, calling it slanderous and unfounded.

Tengku Sariffuddin asked how Muhyiddin who claimed to be a pious man could be a credible president of the new party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

“It’s clear that he preaches one thing for political expediency, but in private does another. Just as he falsely attacks the Prime Minister for corruption, when insiders all know his true history as Chief Minister of Johor.”

Muhyiddin had recently claimed that close to RM1 billion was already in Najib’s personal bank account even before the widely reported RM2.6 billion controversy.

Muhiyiddin was reported to have said that he had learned about the deposits prior to the purported Arab donation, from former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail.

Tengku Sariffuddin said in a statement that the funds in the Prime Minister’s accounts had been comprehensively investigated, and multiple authorities had ruled that no law had been broken.

“The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission even went to Saudi Arabia and examined all the legal documents and interviewed the donor’s representatives. ‎The Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia has also confirmed that the funds in the Prime Minister’s accounts were a donation from the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia.”‎

Tengku Sariffuddin said Muhyiddin was “a disappointed man after being used as Mahathir’s (former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad) puppet” and that he was bitter because he “will never become prime minister as promised, because their attempt to unseat a democratically-elected leader failed”.

He said: “Muhyiddin’s disloyalty, and miscalculations driven by naked ambition, have led to ‎his career ending in ignominy.‎ He is now desperate – why should anyone believe anything he says?‎”
