KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Razlan Rafii has been urged to apologise, especially to Malays, for underestimating their intelligence.

If he fails to do so, cautioned DAPSY National Executive Committee Member Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, “he does not deserve to be a youth leader”.

“Malaysians were unlikely to tolerate a leader who was all about disunity,” stressed Dyana in a statement. “He harps on every ethnic-religious difference.”

She invited Razlan to “Like” and “Follow” the Roketkini page on Facebook. “He can keep himself up-to-date with DAP’s initiatives across race, gender and class boundaries,” said Dyana.

She was commenting on Razlan’s statement on Merdeka Day in which he listed “evidence” of DAP disrespecting Malays.

Dyana, taking up the cudgels, reminded that it was Umno who referred to its members as “macai”. “In DAP, everyone was treated as equal.”

Malays are not macais who are easily insulted, she assured. “They do not have popiah paper-thin tolerance on ethnic and cultural differences.”

Umno views people as lackeys, she reiterated. “Razlan’s choice of words reflects his party’s perception towards their youth members.”

She recalled it was an Umno MP who made the wild claim that “Malaysian Official 1” (MO1) refers to the Agong, the guardian of Islam and the supreme monarch among the Rulers.

Dyana argued that it was Umno which consistently insults Malays by using fear for political gain. “Razlan has a distorted idea of what constitutes an insult to Malays.”

Malays in fact want to be free of a political party (Umno) that claims to represent them but in fact cheats them, she pointed out.

Unfortunately, when any Malay dares to stand up, they are immediately warned the entire race would be “destroyed” if Umno loses power, she lamented. “This modus operandi has been in force for a long time.”

“It’s irrelevant as their racist politics.”

She went on to list some questions.

Why is it not disrespectful when Barisan Nasional (BN) allies, Gerakan, MCA and MIC, criticise hudud?

Is Razlan suggesting that politicians should not attend events simply because alcohol was served? In that case, she said, government ministers should stop attending diplomatic functions.

Do the phrases “In God we trust” and “Lord, guide our nation” in English, automatically make them Christian prayers?

In summing up, she said that Malays make up 60 per cent of city councils in Selangor for example. “Malays represent only 53 per cent of the Selangor population,” said Dyana.

In Penang, however, city councils proportionately represent the population of Penang by ethnicity.
