Car ploughs into night market, four people injured

Elderly man's car hit a pedestrian crossing the road, causing the car to skid and crash into oncoming traffic and a market.

Four people were injured, one seriously, when a car driven by an elderly man skidded and ploughed into the Ampang Jajar night market area at Jalan Permatang Pauh here last night.

Three cars and seven motorcycles were also damaged in the incident.

Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the incident occurred at about 9.30pm after a Perodua Axia car, with a 67-year-old man at the wheel, hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road.

The car skidded and crashed into an oncoming car before ploughing into seven motorcycles and two cars which were parked by the road side at the night market, he added.

He said the pedestrian was seriously injured on the head. The driver of the Perodua Axia car, who was also injured, were sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment

The other two injured in the incident were two men who were on their motorcycles at the parking area. They received out-patient treatment at the same hospital.
