In a statement issued today, IGP Secretariat (Corporate Communications) Head ACP Asmawati Ahmad.said investigations revealed that the suspect was only masquerading as a police officer and had been involved in a theft case in Kuantan last month.
She said that members of the public had caught him in Rawang, Selangor, and handed him over to police.
She added that no MACC officers were involved.
“The police are very concerned over the spread of such false information as it may jeopardise the good relations between the two agencies and diminish public confidence.
“”We hope members of the public will not be easily fooled by such false information.
“Be responsible while surfing the Internet, especially on social media.”
Earlier reports quoted MACC as saying that there were certain parties seeking to tarnish the image of the agency and cause conflict between them and the police.
MACC Deputy Commissioner of Operations Azam Baki had denied the involvement of the agency and said they had lodged a police report in Johor Bahru over the video.
