‘Tutor’ Malaysians as well on the budget, lawmaker tells minister

DAP MP accepts the second finance minister's offer for a 'personal tutorial' on Budget 2017 but says the invitation should be extended to all Malaysians as well.

Steven-Sim
PETALING JAYA: DAP lawmaker Steven Sim today suggested that Johari Abdul Ghani hold a “budget tutorial” for all Malaysians after the minister had offered a “private” session for Sim following their spat earlier in Parliament.

Johari, while debating Budget 2017, had offered Sim a “personal tutorial” over the Bukit Mertajam lawmaker’s allegation that Prime Minister Najib Razak mislead the Dewan Rakyat in his budget speech.

“I would like to thank the Second Finance Minister and hereby, accept the offer.

“However, it is not fair that I get a personal tutorial when other Malaysians are also interested to know the budget better.”

Sim invited Johari to be a panelist with him in a public forum on the budget.

“This is a public invitation to him, but at the same time, I will also send an invitation to his office. I will accommodate his busy schedule and organise the forum at a date of his convenience,” Sim said.

Sim was last week ejected from the Dewan after he questioned Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia’s decision not to refer Najib to the Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee for allegedly misleading the Dewan during his Budget 2017 speech.

Pandikar had rejected Sim’s request and eventually ejected him from the Dewan when he failed to obey repeated calls to sit down.
