In a Facebook post, Rizal Mansor said past rallies held by the electoral watchdog had turned violent on several occasions.
“So why do you chose to continue lying to the people when the evidence speaks for itself.
“The majority of people know your rallies are filled with provocative elements and are meant to incite the people,” he wrote in response to Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah and her deputy, Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari.
In an interview with Sinar Harian, Maria and Shahrul stressed that the upcoming Bersih 5 rally would be a peaceful one and said it was not out to cause violence.
Rizal also rubbished the duo’s claim that they did not want to go to war with any quarters.
Taking to the streets and inciting people against a democratically elected leader in itself was a war against democracy, he said.
Rizal went on to state that it was recently revealed by DCLeaks, a whistle-blower site, that billionaire George Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF), which had a “track record” of supporting violent revolutions, was backing Bersih 2.0.
Maria had previously stated that the group received a one-time grant of about RM70,000 from OSF between 2010 and 2011.
OSF has since rubbished allegations that it was aiming to topple the Malaysian government by funding several local civil societies.
“I want Bersih leaders and their supporters to take a good look in the mirror before demanding justice, transparency and claiming to fight for democracy.”
