The video clip first surfaced on the “Sembang Teh Tarik” Facebook page on Saturday, but images later emerged of two towels stuffed into the toilet bowl allegedly in the same room the woman and her husband had been staying in.
The couple had requested for extra towels, but the housekeeping department at the hotel had refused to comply with the request, China Press reported yesterday.
The Chinese daily’s report added that the woman’s husband had also paid for the hotel room, when they checked out the same day, by throwing the money at the cashier on the front desk.
According to the report, the couple have since been blacklisted by the hotel management.
The incident, which had occurred at about 12.30pm last Thursday, was later confirmed by Syuen Hotel director Maggie Ong, who said the hotel and the staff who was on the receiving end of the towel-throwing tantrum, reserve the right to sue the couple.
According to the report, the female staff member is a 50-year-old employee who had been working with the hotel for 24 years.
Ong said the hotel does not normally mind on the number of additional people that their guests may bring into a hotel room, even if there is a maximum of three people in terms of occupancy.
“But if there are any requests beyond that with respect to the number of guests using the facilities, we will advise guests not to violate the hotel regulations,” Ong was quoted as saying by the Chinese daily.
She added that the hotel had already provided four towels in each room, and that their staff had duly obliged an initial request by the guests for more towels.
“However, when they asked for extra towels again, the hotel had to turn them down,” China Press quoted Ong as saying.
Ong admitted that it was the first time such an incident had taken place in the hotel and that the couple had been asking for extra pillows and towels throughout their stay.
“If any guest is not happy with the hotel for any reason, they can file an official complaint with the hotel management. They do not have to be rude to the staff,” Ong told China Press.
