Chong had said last Tuesday that MCA refused a partial allocation from the government to Chinese schools because it fell short of the promised RM 50 million. This prompted Sekijang MP Anuar Abd Manap to call him arrogant.
In a statement today, Chong’s deputy, Nicole Wong said Anuar failed to understand the allocation issues for Chinese primary schools and called him ignorant.
“We are clear in our stance that MCA rejects the partial allocation because it fell short of the promised RM50 million. If the full amount has yet to be fully paid out, no lesser amount will be taken,” she said.
She added that MCA’s position is in line with the Chinese community’s wishes.
Anuar had on Friday said about Chong: “He should be wiser over why it happened and should speak to his superior (Mahdzir Khalid) to find a solution as the Minister himself had stated the allocation was not revoked but only the money was not distributed in the full amount.”
Anuar added the MCA Senator’s comment suggested he was putting the blame on his boss, the Education Minister, over the shortfall in the funding.
But today, Nicole Wong asked: “The Deputy Education Minister is merely upholding the principle. What is offensive with this?”
She added: “There are two conflicting statements made by Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid and Finance Minister II Johari Abdul Ghani on the fundings.”
She advised Anuar: “As an MP, he should perform his duties and get the Cabinet Minister to act with accountability. But instead, he chose the easy way out of flailing the Deputy Education Minister.”
