Roger Teoh, who is a PhD student in Transport Studies at the Imperial College in London, said he decided to withdraw his resignation following “constructive” talks with the Penang government’s top leadership.
He said he decided to return to the party after he was given the assurance of “a direct” channel to air his grouses over the transport master plan, which he had criticised earlier as being flawed.
“Following the constructive discussion I had with the Penang top leadership, as well as establishing a direct communication channel within the party to voice my concerns on the PTMP, a decision was reached for me to withdraw my resignation from the DAP.
“By having a right channel to express my views within the party, I believe much more can be achieved effectively and efficiently for both parties, as well as improving the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP) for the benefit of Penangites,” Teoh told FMT.
On Dec 12, Teoh resigned as an ordinary member of the Bagan DAP division, after his concerns on the PTMP were not taken into account.
He had said the DAP had gotten “overboard” as the party was too complacent after being in power for eight years. He also expressed his fears that the DAP was morphing into another Barisan Nasional.
The RM46 billion PTMP is the Penang government’s mega transport project which will see highways and rail lines constructed as well as the building of three artificial islands south of the island.
Teoh is against the highways being proposed in the PTMP, saying the master plan should be more public transport centric instead.
He has since written many articles explaining why the PTMP was headed for failure if it did take off.
