But it's still probing whether they had been negligent.

SEGAMAT:
The health ministry might suspend the licences of the doctors and clinics that botched two recent circumcisions.

But its minister Dr S Subramaniam said it first needed to find out whether the doctors had really been negligent.

He also said if the families wanted compensation, they had to go to the courts as his ministry doesn’t have jurisdiction over that.

The ministry has taken two actions so far. Firstly, through the Malaysian Medical Council, it investigated whether the circumcision had been done to standards.

Secondly, it checked on the the health practices of the clinics for proper facilities to carry out operations smoothly.

“It is incumbent on the clinic to contain any risk involved in any operation,” he told reporters after a community event at Batu Anam here today.

The two cases, which happened in Kuala Lumpur, involved a nine year old and a 10 year old.

The minister said the number of such botched cases was minimal and the two cases were hyped on social media.

On another circumcision reportedly gone wrong in Selangor, the minister said he would look into it.
