The Indian national, Sulaiman Valiyapeedika Mudakkundil, 37, pleaded guilty to possessing about 100 pictures and videos of child pornography on his mobile phone
The Star reported that the sundry shop owner and father of two told the magistrate that the images and videos were sent to him via WhatsApp.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Suhaila Shafiuddin urged the court to mete out a reasonable sentence by taking into account the interest of the public.
Magistrate Mazana Sinin sentenced the man to 12 months in jail from the date of remand. The charge carries a maximum sentence of three years’ jail or fine or both.
