Wife-beater
KOTA KINABALU: A 49-year-old man will spend the next one year behind bars for taking his anger out on his wife for constantly nagging him to do household chores, The Star reported.

Ramzi Opong yesterday pleaded guilty at the magistrate’s court here for punching, kicking and pushing his wife against the wall at their house in Kg Rampayan, Manggatal last December.

He was given the maximum jail sentence by Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie after he pleaded to a charge of assault under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

The charge carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

The court heard that the incident occurred when Ramzi was unhappy after his wife ordered him to do household chores.

The Star reported that he punched her left arm, shoved her head against the wall and kicked her, causing her to fall.

She suffered swelling and bruises on her arm, head and had cuts on her knees.
