PETALING JAYA:
The domestic trade, cooperatives and consumerism ministry (KPDNKK) has denied issuing a statement that the price of fuel will not go up effective Feb 1.

A recent post on Facebook earlier claimed that news of the fuel hike was false as prices would go down instead.

The post, written in the form of a short poem, was uploaded on a Facebook account called “KPDNKK”. It stated that the prices had gone down to RM2.85 per litre for RON95, RM2.05 per litre for RON97 and RM1.99 per litre for Diesel.

The Facebook account is fake.

Earlier today, Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia (PDAM) president Khairul Annuar Abdul Aziz told FMT that fuel and diesel prices will most likely go up for the second consecutive month.

“Based on our calculations, it is expected to increase. But nothing is official yet,” he said.

He was asked to comment on a WhatsApp message, currently making the rounds that the widely used RON95 will cost 15 sen more, going up from RM2.10 to RM2.25 per litre.

RON97, it is claimed, will see a 5 sen increase to RM2.45, while diesel is expected to see a 20 sen jump to RM2.25 per litre.

On Jan 1, the cost of RON95 petrol went up by 20 sen to RM2.10 per litre, while RON97 increased by 15 sen to RM2.40 per litre. Diesel too saw a 20 sen increase to RM2.05 per litre.
