“He lost the election to my good friend, PKR’s Johari Abdul, in 2008. He doesn’t represent anybody but himself.
“So I’m really not bothered at all because he is nothing but a rejected politician,” the tourism and culture minister told FMT when contacted.
Earlier today, Zainuddin made several tweets in defence of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who had engaged in a public spat with Nazri over the weekend
Zainuddin had called Nazri a “Pondan Padang Rengas”, adding “Nazri is only willing to fight Mahathir in his own constituency. Still young, but afraid to fight against a senile old man”.
Nazri, who’s Padang Rengas MP, said he was happy he managed to infuriate Zainuddin.
“My whole intention is to irritate Mahathir and his supporters. Obviously, Zainuddin felt irritated when he responded and I’m very happy actually.
“At the end of the day, I’m not here to please them. I’m just here to do my job.”
The verbal tirade between the duo began when Nazri challenged either Mahathir or Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president Muhyiddin Yassin to contest in his Padang Rengas constituency.
Mahathir then issued a counter-challenge to Nazri to contest against him in Langkawi instead. Nazri responded by explaining that Umno’s seat allocation system did not allow him to move from Padang Rengas.
“Mahathir should know better. He was the BN president for many years and I shouldn’t have to teach him. He knows how the system works,” Nazri said.
Nazri has a history of feuding with Mahathir since the former premier started being critical of Prime Minister Najib Razak’s administration.
