According to The Star Online, the 25-year-old man had tried to kill himself after stabbing the 25-year-old woman, a shop sales assistant, in a bitter quarrel last night.
The man is being treated at the Sarawak General Hospital, where he was brought in this morning bleeding from the stomach, neck and wrists.
Sarawak CID chief Senior Asst Comm Dev Kumar said the couple had spent the night together, when the man had accused her of cheating on him.
“A fierce argument ensued and he took a knife that was in the room and stabbed her in the neck. He then tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself in the abdomen and neck, and also slashing his wrists.
“He could have had a change of heart and he rushed to a convenience store nearby to seek assistance,” Dev Kumar said in a statement today.
Upon being questioned, the man said he had stabbed his girlfriend in a fight.
Police visited the rented room the girlfriend lived in and found her body on a mattress on the floor. She had been stabbed in the neck. A bloodstained knife was found in the room.
Dev Kumar said it was the sixth reported murder this year in Sarawak, and police were intent on maintaining a 100% solve rate.
